Καλησπέρα Jeff. Καλώς ήρθες Rockin’Αthens. Μία ερώτηση που σου κάνουν συχνά τελευταία, πώς νιώθεις που είσαι πλέον μέλος στους Crowbar;
Είχες άγχος στην audition και πώς ένιωσες όταν τελικά πήρες την θέση;
Ποιά είναι τα μελλοντικά σχέδια της μπάντας;
Έχετε γράψει καινούργια κομμάτια ή βρίσκεστε ακόμα στο αρχικό στάδιο;
Στο βιογραφικό σου βλέπουμε ότι έχεις παίξει με τους Six Feet Under, τους Goatwhore και πολλούς ακόμα καλλιτέχνες. Τι ήταν αυτό που σε τράβηξε στην μουσική και πώς ένιωσες παίζοντας με όλους αυτούς τους καλλιτέχνες;
Επίσης ασχολείσαι με την γραφιστική. Πως προέκυψε αυτό;
Πως σου φαίνεται η Stoner/Sludge σκηνή; Καινούργιες μπάντες που να σου αρέσουν;
Η Stoner σκηνή στην Ελλάδα είναι μεγάλη και συνεχίζει να μεγαλώνει όσο περνάνε τα χρόνια. Έχεις ακούσει καθόλου Ελληνικά συγκροτήματα;
ENGLISH VERSION
Good evening Jeff and welcome to Rockin’Athens. So, a question that you get a lot, how does it feel to be the new bassist in Crowbar?
Good Evening. Feels awesome! It’s a goal I’ve been working on for years. I told people years ago I’d play in Crowbar eventually.
Were you anxious about it and how was it when you got the gig?
Honestly I wasn’t anxious about it. When I first got to the band room, it didn’t really feel like an audition to me, it felt more like 4 dudes at band practice. I saw the announcement on facebook, got a hold of Kirk and Robin and sent ALL my videos from previous tours, Kirk called a few days after and we set up a day for me to come to NOLA to audition with the full band.
What are the future plans of the band?
Future plans for Crowbar include extensive tour around the world as well as new material.
Have you written any songs for the new album or is it still early?
I personally haven’t written anything for the new album, but Kirk, Matt, and Tommy have been working on stuff.
In your bio I saw that you have played with Six Feet Under, Goatwhore and many more. What was the thing that got you into music and how did you feel playing with all of these artists?
Music has been something that I’ve had a passion for my whole life. So, its kinda hard to pinpoint where it came from. My mom plays piano and I grew up hearing that and hearing other bands being played , on family road trips and at the house. My mom had the vinyl Black Sabbath Paranoid, as well as Iron Butterfly, and I thought it was the coolest thing. I’ve filled in for a few bands along the way. Playing with Goatwhore was great, because I’ve been a fan of sammy’s from the acid bath/crowbar days. And I have known Ben and Sammy for a number of years from going to shows. So when they asked if I could help I out I was all about it. Playing with Six Feet Under was great as well; I still work with them on some tours as a tour manager. It was awesome to be playing with (or have played with) the people that I grew up listening to.
You are also doing graphics? How did this come up?
I’ve been into art my whole life as well as music, it was the only subject in school I was interested in. After high school I was working in a tattoo shop, started tattooing, that didn’t work out for a few reasons, ( poorly ran business ) went back to school on and off and finally just finished up with a degree in digital design back in 2011. I wanted to have a business that would allow me to continue touring, because that has always been my main focus.
What do you think of the whole stoner/sludge music scene? Any new bands that you like?
I think the stoner/sludge music is awesome. Its a big part of the southern scene. I haven’t really checked out a lot of newer bands. But I do like bands like Weedeater, Sourvein, Zoroaster, Electric Wizard and Crowbar of course has always been my favorite. I’m originally from Connecticut, so I grew up with the hardcore scene and bands like hatebreed and 100 demons so its a perfect blend for the Crowbar style.
There is a Crowbar fanbase in Greece. Any plans in the upcoming European tour to visit Greece? Crowbar will be trying to get to as many places possible with the coming year. Kirk and Robin are really active with facebook and twitter so as soon as they know the dates they will post them on those pages, so just keep checking in. And yes..it really is them on the pages making posts haha.
Stoner scene is Greece is growing as the years go by. Have you heard any Greek stuff?
I don’t believe I have heard many bands from Greece but I’d be interested in checking them out for sure!
Thank you for your time Jeff, the last lines of the interview are for you to say anything you want for your fans in Greece and general.
Thank you for getting in touch. I’d just like to thank the Crowbar family and everyone in NOLA that has helped me out here and welcomed me from the moment I got out of my car when I arrived, and for the fans I can tell you the CROWBAR family really appreciates everyone’s support and is looking forward to crushing the stages around the globe for the fans! Your support is much appreciated!
